‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ story revived with new book after author’s death

As deceased author Stieg Larsson’s new book is released, family members are torn over the release of the book as well as the right to release it.

The author of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy, Stieg Larsson, died in 2004. But on Tuesday, his new book will be released, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” which is connected to his famous trilogy, according to Newsy.

The original books became acclaimed across the globe before the story was picked up for a $232 million grossing movie.

But in order to continue the story, a new author was chosen to write the story, David Lagercrantz. Although fans are excited about the addition to the line, the original author’s loved ones are not as thrilled.

“I read original writers, not people who copy other people’s books, so to say. So I won’t read it,” said his longtime partner, Eva Gabrielsson.

An author herself, Gabrielsson, never married Larsson which means that she never got any legal rights to his estate under Swedish law. Instead, Larsson’s family members, his brother and father, were granted complete rights to the his estate and were also the ones who approved Lagercrantz to continue the legacy with a new story.

His partner views the book as a disrespectful nudge to Larsson who was a political and social activist. She only sees the new book as a pure money-making-machine with little regard to the story’s original voice.

But the new author Lagercrantz does not agree with her views. He is the author of a biography and novel about Alan Turing, the man whose life was portrayed in the “The Imitation Game” movie. He also has other works under his belt, including a ghostwritten memoir for a Swedish soccer star.

But either way, putting all opinions aside, all have agreed that the true fate of the new book, and its future additions, will completely depend upon how the public receives it.
