Shannen Doherty’s doctor, Lawrence Piro, says the actress is almost finished with her chemotherapy treatment and everything is going according to plan. Doherty started treatment in July and her health has already improved drastically.
Dr. Piro shared with Entertainment Tonight: “Shannon is doing amazing. We have just a few more weeks of treatment, and then we’ll be nearly finished with the chemotherapy.”
Doherty has been grateful to her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, for being there every step of the way. She added: “My marriage was always fantastic. But it’s even better now.”
Iswarienko also shared: “I have the easy part. Just being a support system for her…I wish I could do it for her, you know?”
The 45-year-old star insists she feels blessed as her condition has allowed her to get “more in touch” with who she is.
“I’ve been given a really interesting opportunity and one that in a way, I kind of feel blessed. Cancer has, in a strange way, done some amazing things for me. It’s allowed me to be more me, like much more in touch with who I am, and much more vulnerable and the person that I always was, but I think it got hidden behind a lot of other stuff.”
She also encourages everyone to be strong, to fight and seek the help of others, as cancer is not nearly as fatal as it was several decades ago.
“I hope people take away the fact that you have to be strong and put yourself out there and have courage and be a warrior. And for me, one of the most important things is for them, their messages, their stories, their love, their support has given me courage. And I thank them for that wholeheartedly.”
