New acts dominate Country Music Association award nominations

For the first time ever, four country music acts nominated for the Country Music Association’s Best New Artist award have also been nominated for awards in other categories, according to the association, which released their nominee list this week.

Eric Church and Little Big Town lead all nominees with five nominations each, reported an article in USA Today.

Church is nominated for entertainer of the year, top male vocalist, single of the year (Talladega), song of the year (Like a Wrecking Ball), and musical event of the year, for his duet with Keith Urban, Raise ‘Em Up.

Little Big Town also recorded five nominations for vocal group of the year, single of the year, (Girl Crush), album of the year (Pain Killer), musical event of the year (Smokin’ and Drinkin’, with Miranda Lambert), and music video of the year (Girl Crush).  This is the tenth time Little Big Town has been nominated for vocal group of the year and the act has won the award for the last three years.

The big story though is the new artists bursting on the scene.  In addition to being nominated for new artist of the year, Kelsea Ballerini received a nomination for female vocalist of the year, Sam Hunt for single and song of the year for Take Your Time, Maddie & Tae for top vocal duo, and Chris Stapleton for album of the year with Traveller.  Thomas Rhett is also nominated for new artist of the year.

Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney received four nominations each and Maddie & Tae, Sam Hunt, Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves each snagged three nominations.

The Nominees for entertainer of the year include, Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Miranda Lambert.

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are slated to host the award show, which is scheduled to air live on November 4, from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, on ABC.
