Known for his role as Superman in recent DC Comics superhero films, Henry Cavill talked about his backup plan if he failed to establish a long-term acting career.
In an interview with Men’s Fitness magazine, he said: “Thankfully at this stage I’ve got my foot in the door enough that if someone tried to slam it shut, I could probably squeeze a little bit and keep the door open.”
The 33-year-old actor also added: “As far as a full back-up plan, it was the British Armed Forces. But being 33 years old I think I’m too old to join now.”
Cavill revealed he would have quit acting but was lucky enough to get a screen test for the role of James Bond.
“There were plenty of times I thought it wouldn’t happen. At one stage I was like, ‘If this next movie doesn’t do well then I’m out, I’m going to join the Armed Forces’. Then I got the screen test for Bond and thought, my name is out there now, so maybe I should stick around. And I did.”
Cavill also admitted he isn’t into acting merely for the love of the art. Finances play a central role and he isn’t afraid to flaunt a lavish lifestyle while also accommodating friends and family.
He shared: “When I’m making money I’m spending it on nice stuff, whether that be lavish holidays for me and my friends or just seeing something and going in a shop and saying, ‘Yeah, I want that for the house,’ and buying it. Spending money on my friends, buying dinner for everyone, drinks for everyone, it’s a nice place to be, and I like people to feel cared for.”
