Emeli Sandé feels “really supported” by Jay Z

Emeli Sandé is grateful to have a “great partnership” with Jay Z and feels the musician has supported her well over time.

The Next to Me singer had recently changed management by signing to Jay Z’s Roc Nation while working on her new album, Long Live the Angels. During that time, she has felt deeply connected and supported by the 46-year-old music mogul.

Sandé said during a session with BBC Radio 1: “I feel really supported by them. It’s been a really great partnership so far. It just all came into plan and I was in New York with my mom and dad and we ended up going into the building and my mom was cracking jokes with Jay Z and it was all a bit surreal.”

The artist recalled a touching, surreal moment when she met Jay Z – who is married to Beyonce – several years ago.

“I met him (Jay Z) a few years ago, I went to the ‘Great Gatsby‘ premiere and I kinda got pushed into this circle with him and Leonardo DiCaprio and I was like ‘Hi I’m Emeli, I’m a singer.'”

Sandé’s third album comes following a four-year break from the studio, with her last release dating back to 2012. The singer says she really looked forward to getting back to work but also acknowledged that the break gave her a chance to “reconnect.”

She added: “I just felt like I really want to get back in the studio; better myself as a song writer, singing, I just really wanted to up the levels of the music. So I’ve kinda just been in studios a lot, travelling around and just reconnecting with my family and friends, just getting back to life and writing songs to be honest.”

Her newest album, Long Live the Angels, is scheduled for release in November.
