Daniel Radcliffe unsure about playing Harry Potter again

Actor Daniel Radcliffe shot to fame thanks to the hugely popular Harry Potter film franchise, which debuted in 2001. Years after the latest film aired, the actor thinks returning to that universe would feel strange.

While the actor wouldn’t rule out portraying the charismatic wizard again, he feels happy enough if someone else took on the role at this point. This comes after rumors that the stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child might see a big screen adaptation. In this latest installment, Radcliffe would play a 40-year-old father.

He shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do. But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.

At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”

The star is also concerned about the new film potentially disappointing fans and ruining the franchise’s positive reception.

“There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to ‘Potter‘, there’s a chance we’d make what ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ was to the original ‘Star Wars’, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace.

So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”

The British star had recently admitted he is unsure about seeing the stage adaptation among other audience members as his presence might distract them.

He said: “It would be a weird one. I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there’s going to be a lot of ‘Harry Potter‘ fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing?”
