Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t bound by a bucket list

Benedict Cumberbatch – who shares a 16-month-old son with wife Sophie Hunter – has experienced quite a few achievements throughout his life and says he doesn’t worry about maintaining a bucket list.

While speaking on the set of the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, he said: “I don’t really have a bucket list. I have, though, in the past, undergone one of the most life-changing moments in my personal life, and also Hamlet, and now I’m here.

The joy of it is in the contrast. I literally flew off to Kathmandu (to film Doctor Strange) two days after we finished Hamlet. It was a massive gear change, but I love what it is to be part of this huge body of work and people. It’s great fun.”

The star plays detective Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock as well as Doctor Strange in the upcoming DC Comics movie. And although his role is that of a neuroscientist, the star joked that his “pea-sized brain” just isn’t cut out for science. He does, however, have a deep curiosity about everything that surrounds us and those things we have yet to understand.

He revealed to The Guardian newspaper: “You know, every time I dig a little bit deeper into science with my pea-sized brain, I hit a wall.

I have a sense of wonder at what is beyond our understanding. There is wonder in logic, and, whether on the macro or micro scale, it just gets bizarre, extraordinary and unfathomable. And we have only five senses to understand and appreciate it, whether it’s theoretical physics or microbiology or circadian rhythms. It’s incredible.”
